The scheme in context
How the scheme uses openIMIS
Between June 2021 and February 2022, Bluesquare implemented openIMIS in Niger with funding from the Belgian Development Agency Enabel. The project aimed to set up openIMIS for a health insurance scheme in two districts – Gaya and Gothèye – on a pilot basis as part of the the Programme d´appui au système de santé (PASS) au Niger (Health System Support Programme). A first version of openIMIS was deployed under a hybrid legacy/modular architecture and most of the information necessary for adapting it to the Nigerien context has been uploaded (products, list of health facilities/regions/districts/villages, medical items/services, prices, etc.).
Bluesquare and Enabel are working together to develop Standard Operating Procedures detailing the processes to be put in place in the country context. In November 2021, a training of trainers course was carried out in Niamey. The testing phase took place in December 2021, and a final evaluation workshop was carried out online in early February 2022.
Interoperability
As part of the project, Bluesquare also led an analysis of openIMIS-DHIS2 and openIMIS-openMRS integrations. Following the testing phase of openIMIS, the intention is to extend the use of openIMIS to more districts and to link it to DHIS2 and openMRS in order to reduce workload for staff at health facilities.
