Overview
The openIMIS Community Meeting 2026 took place from 23 to 25 June 2026 at The Malla Hotel in Lekhnath Sadak, Thamel, Kathmandu. Over three days, implementers, developers, user organisations, partners, and funders of the openIMIS Initiative came together for a workshop to discuss updates on community, product development, and implementations.
More than 120 participants from 20 countries gathered in Kathmandu, Nepal, for the event, bringing together software developers, implementers of health and social protection programs, academia, funders, and other stakeholders to strengthen collaboration, foster innovation, and align around a shared vision for the future.

Context
2026 marked the 10th anniversary of openIMIS, a Digital Public Good that has transformed health and social protection management worldwide. Over the past decade, openIMIS empowered countries to build flexible, interoperable, and sustainable digital systems, enabling more than 38.8 million people in 14 countries to access essential health and social protection services. Its impact was especially notable in Nepal, where openIMIS supports two of the largest implementations globally, managed by the Health Insurance Board (HIB) and the Social Security Fund (SSF). Together, HIB and SSF reached nearly 20 million beneficiaries, successfully transforming service delivery at scale.
To celebrate these achievements and set the course for the future, the openIMIS Community Meeting 2026 convened in Kathmandu. The gathering brought together users, implementers, developers, and global partners to reflect on a decade of progress, share innovations, and strengthen collaboration across the community.
The meeting culminated in a forward-looking discussion on the future of openIMIS as a Digital Public Good and its global community. Participants collectively identified priorities for technical advancements, capacity-building, and strategic positioning within the broader Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) landscape. By uniting diverse contributions and investments from all members and partners, the community co-created a shared vision to ensure openIMIS remains a cornerstone of equitable health and social protection worldwide.
